What Did Jesus Look Like?
This question has been asked for thousands of years. There are several current versions of the bible, yet none of them give an exact description of the appearance of Jesus. We have artist renditions from different countries and time periods. There are Biblical scholars that specialize in this topic, and spend many years pondering this question. You might be wondering why I feel it’s necessary to talk about it.
Why Does It Matter?
In modern times we have many sources of information. We also have many platforms to discuss ideas and express opinions. Time and time again I have seen discussions and fights about the appearance of Jesus Christ. From Christian discussion groups to random social media posts. This topic usually turns nasty. For some reason everyone feels that their image of Jesus is the right one, and they get personally offended when it is challenged. This is why I feel it’s important to address early on this website. It’s a divisive topic, and I aim to bring Christians of all denominations closer together.

Some believe he was fair skinned with light eyes and brown hair. Others believe Jesus had dark skin and features. While others believe Jesus would look similar to modern day humans that live in the Middle East. Some artists in Asia depict Jesus Christ with Asian features. There are many books and documentaries on this subject as well. I am going to make a bold statement.

None of them are wrong!

There is nothing wrong with asking this question. However at the end of the day, Christ’s appearance is a non issue. It doesn’t matter at all. We as Christians should be focusing on the message of Jesus. Learn from his teachings and life! Mourn his death on the cross for our sins, and celebrate with joy his resurrection! His human likeness, while interesting to think about, counts for nothing.
Do not let this topic divide our Christian community. Love thy neighbor. If you see a discussion on this subject, please remind your fellow Christians about the message of Jesus. His sacrifice and love have nothing to do with your Earthly appearance. The appearance of Jesus should not cause us to argue and spit venom at each other. Stick to the important things. His life, death, resurrection, message of love, and promise of eternal life!

As Christians we are taught to spread the message of Jesus. That is not a bad thing. It’s commendable to preach the Gospel and save others. In this age of information it’s easier than ever before. But there is a difference between spreading the message of Jesus, and judging those that don’t want to hear it. It is not our job to pass judgment on anyone. On the other side, it is not fun being mocked or made fun of for our religious beliefs. There are some atheists that hold themselves intellectually superior over anyone that believes in God.

First off, my name is Kyle and I am a young family man living in the United States. I work a 9-5 job and live an average lifestyle. I was born and raised Catholic, and attended Catholic school for eight years. My first job was working in the rectory of my church as an assistant/secretary. I also participated in the peer ministry program during high school. Needless to say, I am quite familiar with the beliefs of Christianity and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
